Chandigarh: Mercury rose further at most places in Haryana and Punjab on Monday with Bhiwani sizzling at nearly 42 degrees Celsius.
Bhiwani in Haryana was hotter by five degrees than normal level while Hisar, too, braved a hot day at 39.6 degrees Celsius, up three notches, the MeT Department here said.
Ambala recorded a maximum temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius.
Capital city Chandigarh, which was hit by mild dust storm during the day today, recorded a high of 37 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar recordest the hottest temperature at 38.7 degrees Celsius, five notches above the normal.
Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures at 37.1 degrees Celsius and 37.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
According to a MeT official, the maximum temperatures at most places had been hovering under the 35-degree Celsius mark until two days ago.
Despite summer season having set in, the mercury had been hovering below normal levels across Punjab, Haryana including Chandigarh as the region was lashed by unseasonal rains for most of March and some part of April as well.
