Southwest monsoon progresses in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: Saurashtra and South Gujarat are likely to get more rainfall in the next 24 hours as the southwest monsoon has made further advance covering more parts of East and Central regions of the state.

"In the last 24 hours, monsoon has advanced further with coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch as well as East and Central Gujarat receiving good rainfall.

On Sunday, monsoon has advanced further over Dwarka and some more parts of East and Central Gujarat," said Ahmedabad meteorological centre director Jayanta Sarkar.

He said while Saurashtra and South Gujarat are expected to get more rainfall in the next 24 hours, Saurashtra region will get good rainfall in next five days.

 

Sarkar said more areas of east central parts of the state will be covered under monsoon in the last two days of the next five-day period.

"More of Gujarat region will get rainfall in the last two days of the five-day prediction, and may be during that time we could see further advancement of rainfall over the state," he said.

Meanwhile, as per the statement issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) here today, the rainfall also occurred over a few places in south Gujarat region and isolated places in north Gujarat.

"The northern limit of monsoon over Gujarat state now passes through Dwarka and Vallabh Vidya Nagar," it stated.

Delayed by over a week, the southwest monsoon, which normally hits the state around June 15 or June 16, arrived only last Wednesday.
