Mumbai: Senior advocate Abha Singh on Thursday condemned the gang-rape of two Delhi-based women in Goa and urged the state police to make a strong case to ensure life imprisonment to the accused.
"It is very shameful that in a tourist place like Goa, two women tourists from Delhi were raped. An organised crime took place, their movements were being watched, their house was broken into and serious charges of dacoity, hurt and rape have been registered," Singh told ANI.
"It is important for Goa Police to make a foolproof case, file the charge sheet immediately and ensure that life imprisonment is given to these accused. In spite of such strong laws we are unable to protect women," she added.
Two Delhi-based women, who were travelling to the Anjuna beach in Goa in a taxi, were allegedly gang-raped by five men after their cab was stopped en route.
The five accused, who posed as officers of the anti-narcotic cell of the police, have been arrested and charged with gang-rape, kidnapping and robbery.
