Maneka Gandhi, Noor Bano in fray as UP votes for 11 Lok Sabha seats tomorrow

Over 1.8 crore electorate would decide the fate of 151 candidates, including stalwarts like former cabinet ministers Maneka Gandhi, Santosh Gangwar, Saleem Sherwani, Dharmendra Yadav and Begum Noor Bano, when voting for 11 Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 17.

Lucknow: Over 1.8 crore electorate would decide the fate of 151 candidates, including stalwarts like former cabinet ministers Maneka Gandhi, Santosh Gangwar, Saleem Sherwani, Dharmendra Yadav and Begum Noor Bano, when voting for 11 Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 17.

In the second phase, polling would be held in Nagina, Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Amroha, Badaun, Aonla, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur and Kheri.

Senior BJP leader Maneka Gandhi, who last time won from Aonla, is back to her traditional seat Pilibhit this time.

Dharmendra Yadav, the nephew of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, is in the fray to retain the Badaun Lok Sabha seat, former MP Sherwani is contesting from Aonla as Congress candidate.

After former cricketer and MP Mohd Azharuddin left the Moradabad seat, Congress has made Begum Noor Bano its candidate from here. Her son Nawab Kazim Ali too is testing his luck from Rampur seat.

Former minister Santosh Gangwar is in the fray from Bareilly as BJP nominee.

Shafeequrehman Barq, who won the last election from Sambhal on BSP ticket, is riding on the cycle (SP) this time.
Of the 11 seats for which polling would be held, four were won by SP, three by Congress, and two by BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections in 2009.

Uttar Pradesh witnessed 65% polling in the first phase held on April 10.

Campaigning for 11 Lok Sabha seats going to polls on Thursday in the second phase in Uttar Pradesh ended yesterday.
