Raipur: In a shocking incident, a trainer at the Chankhuri Police Training Academy in Chhattisgarh had forced the women trainees to mention their period dates and asked menstruating women to stand out of the queue during the training.   

The incident came to fore after a trainee deputy superintendent of police (DSP) lodged a complaint of harassment against her trainer, said a Times Of India report.

The matter became worse after outdoor in-charge Neelkanth Sahu, an official of DSP rank, allegedly hit a trainee with a cane below the belt and made indecent remarks against her on Tuesday.

The ToI report quoted a trainees as saying that Sahu recently pulled the hair of women trainees during a parade and asked women to come out of the swimming pool on the pretext of a head count.

There were being harassed and tortured by their trainer almost everyday, another trainee allged.

It was also reported that Sahu poked the trainee with the cane to wipe out mud sticking to her uniform while she was holding a rifle during practice.

Upset with the unruly behaviour of their trainer, the women trainees reported the matter with senior police officials and lodged a complaint which was signed by the 32-member batch.

Sahu was then sent to police lines at the headquarters and relieved of duty.

Another woman trainee reportedly said that Sahu didn't miss any opportunity to harass women.

He would loudly mention the trainees' menstruation dates from the register.

Sahu also reportedly made fun of pregnant woman trainee, asking why she had no baby bump, said sources.

Later, a delegation of state women commission also visited the police academy to meet the trainees and inquired about their situation.
