Raipur: A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED), suspected to have planted by naxals, was found from a roadside near two security forces' camps in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kanker district today.

A joint squad of district force, BSF (Border Security Force) and SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) detected the bomb, weighing around 10 kg, at a culvert near Gondanar village on Antagarh-Narayanpur road under Tadoki police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.

Based on specific inputs that naxals have planted two powerful IEDs in the route where two camps of security forces- SSB at Godbinapal village and BSF at Gondanar village-located at a distance of 3 km, a search operation was launched this morning to track the explosives, the official said.

Around 1.5 km away from Gondanar, they spotted the explosive packed in a steel container placed on the side of a culvert, averting a major mishap, he said.

Besides, a couple of detonators and wire was also seized from the spot, the official added.

The explosive was immediately defused by the bomb disposal squad. The IED was planted by rebels to target the security personnel during their operation in the region, he said.

"Efforts are on to trace another IED reportedly planted in the same area," the official said.
