Srinagar: Many intellectuals often accuse the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir of violating human rights, but here's a story of the brave soldiers from the encounter site of Pulwama, which certainly would shut the mouth of such people.

On Thursday, two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and two civilians were killed during a nine-hour gunbattle between the ultras and the security forces in Awantipora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

While the forces were busy fire fighting the LeT men, they learnt that one of the ultras named Mohammad Shafi Shergujri, was a local. On hearing this, the security personnel in order to avoid bloodshed, brought forth Shergujri's family members to the encounter site, to persuade him to surrender.

But all efforts went in vain, the militant refused to surrender and continued firing at the forces, and was subsequently eliminated.

His wife Dilshada and his mother made repeated requests by making announcements on a loudhailer but to no avail, as the terrorist did not relent to her pleas and refused to surrender.

The second associate of Shergujri was identified as Jehangir Ganai.

A police spokesperson said the slain militants were involved in many incidents of violence, including killing of security and police personnel and political activists, grenade attacks on the forces and police installations in South Kashmir.
