PM Narendra Modi's 'graveyard' remark sparks row, Congress to file complaint with EC

During a rally at UP's Fatehpur, PM Narendra Modi accused the Akhilesh Yadav government of discrimination on the basis of religion.

New Delhi: The Congress is planning to file a complaint with Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his 'controversial' remarks made during his speech at a rally in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Secretary of the Legal and Human Rights Department of the Congress party KC Mittal confirmed the development, stating that a complaint will be filed over the Prime Minister's deplorable statement during his address.

While addressing a rally at UP's Fatehpur on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi said that "no government must discriminate the public on the lines of religion and caste".

"If there is electricity during Ramadan, then it must be available during Diwali too. There shouldn't be any discrimination. If the land is given for cemetery in a village, it should be given for cremation ground also." Modi said yesterday.

Asserting that the public should not be divided into lines of caste and religion, Modi stated that "Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas" is his government's mantra.

Last week, the grand old party had asked the Election Commission to take action against Prime Minister Modi and the BJP for hosting a public rally at Uttarakhand without permission.
