New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar on Friday slammed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for petitioning the Supreme Court for restoring criminal conspiracy charges against senior BJP leaders including him, LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti among others.

Speaking to news agency ANI, the BJP MP, who has long campaigned for a grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, described the CBI's action as a conspiracy.

"CBI has become a wild animal on the loose under the present dispensation. It is the CBI which is conspiring. When there was no case, why was it framed against us by the CBI? Even the High Court said that no conspiracy case stands against us. But a case of conspiracy was framed through the medium of CBI. We will follow the Supreme Court`s verdict. We are ready to go to jail. But nobody demolished the structure," Katiyar told ANI.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha had said there was no criminal conspiracy in the Babri Mosque demolition as the Supreme Court on Wednesday revived the conspiracy charges against senior BJP leaders.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader who is also founder-president of Bajrang Dal, the youth wing of the Hindu organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said he was ready to go to jail for the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The apex court, which dubbed the demolition of the medieval era monument as a "crime" which shook the "secular fabric of the Constitution", allowed CBI's plea on restoration of criminal conspiracy charge against the VVIP accused which will have its political implications particularly against 89- year old Advani, reported to be a front-runner for the post of the President.

Besides the three BJP leaders, the accused, against whom the conspiracy charge would now be invoked, are Vinay Katiyar, Sadhvi Ritambara, Vishnu Hari Dalmia, who were being tried at Rae Bareilly.

The Allahabad High Court had earlier dropped the criminal conspiracy charges.
