'Desi' cows for women boxing champs: Haryana govt's idea of reward

Rohtak: In a big boost to sportspersons from the state, the ML Khattar government in Haryana has now decided to reward its women boxers, who won gold and bronze medals in the World Youth Women Boxing Championship, with an unusual gift – a desi cow.

According to ANI, one 'desi' cow will be given to each one of them.

The announcement was made by Haryana State Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar in Rohtak.

The minister said this while welcoming the sportspersons at a felicitation ceremony held in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) boxing academy at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium in Rohtak on Thursday.

"All four gold medalists and two bronze medalists of World Youth Women Boxing Championship will be rewarded with one Indian breed cow each. With the milk of these cows, they will play better and remain strong," the minister said while applauding their effort.

"We have won five gold medals for India and we are happy that we have performed well," said Sakshi, a gold medalist to media.

The World Youth Women Boxing Championship was held in Guwahati between November 19 and 26.

Neetu, Sakshi, Jyoti and Shashi won gold medals each, while Anupama and Neha won bronze medals in various categories.

India bagged five gold medals after Ankushita Boro on Thursday won gold in 64 kg category in the AIBA World Youth Championship in Guwahati.
