DUSU says not favouring private guest houses to accommodate students

The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) on Wednesday said that it is not "favouring" private guest houses to accommodate students and parents during the ongoing admission season.

New Delhi: The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) on Wednesday said that it is not "favouring" private guest houses to accommodate students and parents during the ongoing admission season.

A few left-leaning student organisations had accused the DUSU of favouring private PGs against its poll promise to fight for more hostels.

DUSU Vice President Priyanka Chhawri who gave permission to a private guest house said it was done only after ensuring the charges were nominal.

"During the admission season, students from across the country come to DU and it takes minimum 3 days to complete the process. The varsity does not provide any accommodation. I have been getting more than 60 calls everyday to recommend a good hostel for staying during this period," Chhawri said.

"Guest houses too are preoccupied to add to the woes," she said.

A letter issued by the DUSU permitted a private accommodation centre to advertise in the North Campus and also issue pamphlets.

"There are already a lot of PGs advertising inside the campus. There is nothing to favour but one such entity approached me for permission to advertise inside the campus as it was demanded money by a few groups to do so," she said.

The ABVP-led DUSU has been demanding more hostel facilities and because of our efforts the Hindu and the Bharati College got new hostels,Chhawri  said.
