BJP MP Manoj Tiwari's staff attacked: ASI suspended for 'unprofessional' conduct

Seven persons, including a cook at Rashtrapati Bhawan, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

New Delhi: An Assistant Sub-inspector of the Delhi Police has been suspended for "unprofessional handling" of an incident, in which seven men allegedly barged into the residence of Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and attacked his staff.

ASI Kailash Chand, posted in the Police Control Room (PCR) unit, was placed under suspension yesterday. A departmental inquiry has been initiated against him.

Sources said CCTV footage showed the ASI entering Tiwari's residence along with the accused.

"There are complaints against him about the unprofessional handling of the matter. Based on the complaint and CCTV footage, we have placed him under suspension pending inquiry," said Dependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police (Operations) and Chief Spokesperson, Delhi Police.

Sources said in his defence, the suspended ASI said he had attended the call and even informed the other PCR vans in the vicinity.

He had attended two calls -- one from the accused and another from the BJP MP's staff -- on the day of the incident. Tiwari's staff had called the police to alert them that they were attacked.

CCTV footage showed the accused entering Tiwari's residence behind the ASI.

"He (the ASI) could have stopped others from entering the house which he did not. He claimed that the accused followed him inside but it seems that the trespassing happened in his presence.

He claimed that he did not have anything to do with the accused," said another official.

Seven persons, including a cook at Rashtrapati Bhawan, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
