New Delhi: Irfan Pathan was left heartbroken at the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) auction after remaining unsold at an event where eight franchises splurged plenty of money.

But despite the heartbreak, the all-rounder was named as the skipper of Baroda team for upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Pathan, who has been in good form lately for his state team, will lead Baroda for the third time running as he led his state side in Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as well.

Irfan's brother Yusuf Pathan has however been dropped from the squad as he has not been in best of his form this season.

While Irfan will lead the team, hard-hitting batsman Deepak Hooda has been handed over the vice captaincy.

Earlier, Irfan, who has played for Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants in the past editions, failed to find a single bid at IPL 2017 auction.

Compared to Ishant Sharma, whose base price of Rs 2 crore was said to be the reason behind his snub, Irfan went unsold with a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
