New Delhi: In a short span of time, Virat Kohli has already built a huge fan base behind himself as a result of numerous match-winning knocks.

The way he has been scoring centuries lately, one cannot but compare him with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who is the only batsmen in international cricket to have scored 100 centuries.

While the Kohli vs Sachin debate refuses to settle down, former Australian speedster Glenn McGrath reckons it's too early to compare the two batsmen.

Speaking to India Today, the 46-year-old said that while Tendulkar was undeniably one of the greatest, Virat has the potential to become one by the end of his career.

"Sachin is one of the greatest batsmen of all times. There is no doubt about that. A lot of people are comparing Virat with Sachin already. I think it's a little bit too soon to be doing that. Yeah, Virat has got huge potential and I think by the end of his career, he will be able to classed as one of the greatest but I think you have got to play 100 Test matches or 10-12 years before you can actually move into that category. At the moment, Sachin is one of the greats, Virat is potentially one of them," he said.

While Tendulkar scored 100 centuries from 200 Tests and 463 ODIs, Kohli has already scored 37 international centuries from 45 Tests and 171 ODIs.

Many cricket pundits reckon if Kohli keeps scoring tons at this rate, he will become the only batsman to surpass Tendulkar's incredible record of 100 tons in international cricket.
