New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin is part of that group of cricketers who were first spotted in the Indian Premier League.

Though he represented Tamil Nadu before making his debut for Chennai Super Kings, it was in the cash-rich league that his announced himself to the Indian public.

Under MS Dhoni's captaincy in the IPL, Ashwin not only played a key role for CSK but also made it to the national side.

Thanks to the likes of Ashwin, Suresh Raina and Dhoni himself, CSK became the IPL's most successful team until the spot-fixing and betting scandal came to light.

Post the controversy, CSK and Rajasthan Royals were suspended for a period of two years. Their players were auctioned again and were bought by new franchises Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions.

The popularity of the IPL was dented due to the absence of these two much-loved teams. Irrespective of what went on behind the scenes at RR and CSK, fans loved their brand of cricket.

Hence it came as no surprise when a fan asked Ashwin about a potential reunion of former CSK players when the franchise will feature in IPL 2018.

The off-spinner's reply summed up the uncertainty surrounding the future of the two teams.

At the moment, there is no clarity even on BCCI's part as to how it intends to conduct the league when CSK and RR return to the fold.

It would indeed be a great sight to watch all the former CSK players team up together, but that scenario appears unlikely for the time being.
