MS Dhoni answers Dilip Vengsarkar's fitness criticism, says have been training in gym

New Delhi: Questions on MS Dhoni's fitness measures to efficiently lead the team in ODIs have been persistent and Dilip Vengsarkar is the latest to raise doubts on the subject.

Just a few days ago, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar expressed astonishment on how limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni keeps himself fit, considering he no longer plays Test or first class cricket.

"Dhoni has retired from Test cricket. He also doesn't play Ranji games. So how does he keep himself match-fit. One needs to play regularly to stay match-fit. It's ironical that Dhoni isn't doing this," Vengsarkar was quoted saying by mid-day.com.

Mahi, now 34 years old, told The Telegraph on the matter, "I've been training and gymming in Ranchi. Keeping myself in shape (for the ODIs and the T20Is against England)."

Despite his age, Dhoni is considered as one of the fittest cricketers in the Indian dressing room and when it comes to staying fit, he certainly is a role model, not just for Indian cricketers but also to those abroad.

The Captain Cool will also reportedly get to play for India A in a couple of warm-up games before the ODI series begins.

The first ODI between India and England starts on January 15 in Pune.
