Ashwin struck back to dismiss Karunaratne and thus picked up his 281st Test wicket. Chandimal joined in Mendis as the game for Day 2 ceased at 50 at the loss of two wickets. Much to go for the Lankans when they take in the field tomorrow.

Karunaratne and Mendis continue with the proceedings after Sri Lanka's jittery start. Will they be able to cope up with the immense pressure?

Ravichandran Ashwin struck early to dismiss opener Upul Tharanga. Sri Lanka under pressure right from the start. Kushal Mendis walked in next.

Virat Kohli signals as India declared their score at 622 at the loss of nine wickets. Impressive enough for the visitors. Two centurions and four others smashing fifty-plus scores. For the hosts, it was Herath who scalped three today. But it was Virat Kohli's army that stood above all. Still, 20 overs to go.

Rangana Herath struck back to dismiss Wriddhiman Saha. Spun it past his bat and the keeper behind did the rest. But Jadeja continued his onslaught as he smashed his eighth Test fifty. Shami who too tried to join the boundary carnival failed to carry through.

Saha and Jadeja lift India past the 550-run mark. They continue with their proceeding right after tea break. Ahead of the time-out Saha had notched up his fifty and he along with Jadejja are now looking for more boundaries, it seems.

Wriddhiman Saha too notches up his Test fifty, his fifth in total. Jadeja, on the other hand, is smashing a couple of boundaries to surge up Indian score and pile up more pressure on the hosts.

Pandya is back in the hut, caught by Mathews of the bowling of Pushpakumara. He made 20 off 20 balls. India will look to get as many crucial runs as possible in these last few overs.

Ashwin notches up his 11th Test fifty notching up a fantastic six and then out. Herath outfoxes him and Ashwin walked back. Hardik Pandya stepped in next to continue with Saha at crease.

Ashwin and Saha stick to the crease as the two teams depart for lunch. The hosts are surely on top dismissing two centurions way before the end of first session.

Ashwin, Rahane lift India past the 400-run mark, but the latter departs soon. Pushpakumara spun it right past his bat, as keeper stumped Rahane out who had looked to ramp the ball over mid-off. Maiden wicket for Pushpakumara, a moment to rejoice. Wroddhiman Saha stepped in next

Ashwin and Rahane continue strong as the duo take India close to the 400-run mark. Boundaries are coming in occasionally mounting up pressure on the Sri Lankan side. They need two more quickly to disrupt their momentum.

Sri Lanka struck real early into the game as Karunaratne dismissed Pujara in the second over of the game. Trapped between the legs and the hosts went up for a review after Umpire's denial. And off went Pujara. Ashwin stepped in next.

Cheteshwar Pujara chose an apt occasion to profess his never-ending love for red-ball cricket, scoring another classy century as India reached 344/3 against Sri Lanka, here on the first day of the second Test.

On a day, when Pujara played his landmark 50th Test match and was also recommended for the prestigious Arjuna Award, the Saurashtra right-hander remained unbeaten on 128 -- his 13th hundred in longest format.

Ajinkya Rahane (103 batting) also roared back to form after a patchy last season hitting his ninth Test ton while adding 211 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket stand as Sri Lankan bowlers once again had a poor day in office.
