India vs Australia: Ravichandran Ashwin breaks Dale Steyn’s record of most wickets in a Test season

New Delhi: Ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Saturday became the bowler with most wickets in a Test season.

He removed Aussie skipper Steve Smith in the 60th over to surpassed Dale Steyn's tally of 78, which the South African got in 2007-08 season.

Interestingly, Ravindra Jadeja, who replaced Ashwin as the top ranking ICC Test bowler, has 67 wickets this season, and is third on the list, ahead of Aussie great Glenn McGrath (66) in 1998-99.

Indian legend and current coach of the national team Anil Kumble took 64 wickets in 2004-05 season to make the top five.

Despite his relatively poor form in the series, Ashwin has had a brilliant season with both bat and ball.

Earlier, he became the fastest bowler to take 250 Test wickets, and also completed 200 wickets in home Tests in his 30th match, which is again the quickest.
