New Delhi: Pat Cummins was announced the new man in, by the Australian team selectors on Friday, as a replacement for Mitchell Starc, who flew back home due to a stress fracture.

While Jackson Bird was the likely replacement given that he is part of the 16-member squad that flew to India, but it was Cummins who made it through, making a comeback after almost six years of absence.

His recent figure of 8/104 against South Australia, gave the New South Wales pacer the edge over the Tasmanian.

“We were looking for a strike-bowling replacement option,” Hohns said cricket.com.au, “Pat has impressed in his return to cricket this summer with consistent performances in his ODI, Twenty20 International and Big Bash matches."

"It has been a really long time and he been working really hard to get in, trying to get his body right.," Warner remarked in support of Cummins, to cricket.com.au.

"He has got a lot of pace, something which the Australians always look for and with Patty in for Starc, we are going to have that firepower."

Third match of the series will be played at Ranchi, starting March 16.
