SSB officer killed in shootout with militants in Assam's Chirang

A 47-year-old SSB officer was killed on Tuesday in a shootout with National Democratic Front of Bodoland-S militants in Assam's Chirang district, an official said.

Dispur: A 47-year-old SSB officer was killed on Tuesday in a shootout with National Democratic Front of Bodoland-S militants in Assam's Chirang district, an official said.

One militant was also eliminated in the joint operation conducted by the 15th Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Assam Police and Indian Army on a tip-off, said SSB spokesperson Deepak Singh. 

Sub-Inspector Amal Sarkar, a resident of Tripura, was killed in the operation in the shootout occurring at around 2.30 p.m. in Manas Reserve forest in Chirang. 

The search and combing operation is still going on, said the spokesperson. 

Sarkar, who was on deputation to the SSB, is survived by his wife and two daughters.
