I remember, a few years ago, going on a big hunt for Bluetooth headphones so I could workout to music without annoying others who didn’t care to hear the same tracks and voice-cued workout instructions. There was barely any choice. But that's really changing fast today with various audio and other companies keeping in mind that people want wireless products specifically for workouts, walking and running etc. There's Samsung's Iconx in-ear phones that are designed specifically for this purpose. But that's an expensive proposition at over Rs 13,000. I decided to look at the BTS Sports on-ear headphones to see if they fit the need for exercise sessions.

Light but flimsy

The BTS Sports Bluetooth headphones are essentially flimsy in their look and feel. And very plastic-y. Going by the build alone, one wouldn't expect the set to last beyond a year, but that's just the impression one gets. The band is meant to go around your neck and hook over the ears. This is a little fiddly but not uncomfortable once you get there. An advantage of the plastic build is that the headphones are light. You don't need the headphones getting in your way and distracting you while you're working out, after all. They seem to fit good enough and don't fall off when you move vigorously.

All the controls — and there really aren't many — are on the right earcup. From here you stop and start, change volume level, and take calls. It's minimalistic enough for you to forget it and focus instead on the workout.

They pair with your device quite easily. Just press the earcup and open your device's settings and the rest happens. The buttons, however, click loudly.

Make-do sound

There are no other special workout features on the audio front. The sound quality, for music, will just about do. It's a little thin and tinny but as long as you're using something else when settling down to actually listen to music rather than workout, they're adequate. You can't leave the phone at home when using them or anything but the Bluetooth range is good. These headphones charge with a regular USB cable (provided in the box) and the charge is meant to last 30 hours.

Price: ₹5,900
