Indian Airlines has decided to close down offline and low-density stations in the country to curb wasteful expenditure. Concerned with the diminishing bottomline, the Managing Director, Mr. P. C. Sen, is reported to have ordered a low-key exercise to cut costs in various areas. However, the move has evoked a lukewarm response from certain quarters which suggest that these efforts would only reduce the expenditure/losses marginally. They maintained that stronger measures would have to be introduced urgently to turn pull the airline out of the red.

Taneja hopes to fly high on Cessna

Taneja Aerospace and Aviation Ltd, the only civilian aircraft manufacturing company in the country, hopes to break even and possibly make a modest profit this year, following its tie-up with Cessna Aircraft Company for marketing and maintenance of the letter’s aircraft. The company is also negotiating with a helicopter manufacturer for maintenance facility and has participated in a couple of bids for sub-assembly of fuselage and cockpit parts for commercial aircraft.

TN fails in curbing LTTE movement: Chidambaram

The Commerce Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram, has said that he was not satisfied with the Tamil Nadu Government’s handling of the LTTE militants in the State. “They have failed in controlling people in jails and camps. They have failed in controlling the movement between Sri Lanka and the southern districts of the State. They have failed to prevent the spread of the bomb culture, “ he told presspersons on Saturday. However, he did not have evidence of any connivance with the LTTE.
