The commitment to quality journalism that BusinessLine brings has been validated by two recent awards — one won by Deputy Editor PT Jyothi Datta and the other by columnist Anna MM Vetticad.

Datta, who writes routinely on health issues and on ethics in the pharmaceutical industry, received the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations’ (FIAPO) Media Award for her work that contributed to the animal protection movement in India during 2015 and 2016.

The nomination and award were for coverage on issues including the testing of medicines and cosmetics on animals and recent laws that regulate such practices; coverage on a recent Law Commission report on the unregulated pet market and so on.

The award was one of eight given at the India for Animals Conference recently in Mumbai, which saw the participation of 400 Indian and foreign participants involved with animal rights and advocacy.

FIAPO is India’s apex animal protection organisation, with over 200 supporter organisations across the country.

Ramnath Goenka award

Vetticad, who has been a columnist for BLink ever since the inception of the weekend supplement of BusinessLine , won the Ramnath Goenka Award 2015 for her column ‘Film Fatale’ with BLink . The award was given in the ‘Commentary and Interpretative Writing’ category for her entire body of columns in 2015.

Vetticad is a noted film critic and the author of The Adventures of an Intrepid Film Critic . Her columns in BLink engage in discourse around new cinema from all over the country, and important works of film from world cinema, often focussing on gender bias and sexism in cinema.

One of her most popular articles with BLink was a scathing commentary on the film Bahubali titled ‘The Rape of Avanthika’, published on July 17, 2015. It engaged with the skewed notions around consent when it comes to interactions of a sexual and romantic nature, and the ‘trivialisation of sexual violence’ in popular films.
