The Karnataka government, which is in the process of formulating a sports policy, has circulated the draft of the policy among the Arjuna award winners in the State for their feedback, according to Pramod Madhwaraj, Karnataka Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs.

In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of a programme at Mangalore University in Mangaluru, he said that the final draft is almost ready and it is being circulated among the Arjuna awardees for the final touch-up.

After getting their feedback, he will take this to other ministries concerned, including education, for their feedback. Since students will have to be given grace marks and attendance for their participation in sports activities, this needs to be discussed with the Education Ministry also, he said.

The policy will be placed before the Cabinet after that. He hoped that the Chief Minister will announce the sports policy in the forthcoming State Budget. The sports policy will have better chance of getting implemented, if it gets the stamp of approval from the State Assembly.

The minister said he had conducted meetings with sportspersons from 30 districts of the State in Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Bengaluru, Udupi and Mysuru before preparing the draft.
