The Dakshina Kannada-based Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), a non-governmental organisation working on rural development, has begun water supply in the drought-affected villages of six districts in Karnataka.
A press release by LH Manjunath, Executive Director of SKDRDP, said here on Wednesday that SKDRDP has begun the process of supplying water to 196 villages in the drought-affected regions of Vijayapura, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Bidar, Dharwad and Belagavi districts in Karnataka. Around 1.58 lakh families from these 196 villages will get the benefit of water supply.
He said that steps have been taken to supply water to those villages that are not getting supply either from government or from non-governmental organisations. The water requirement of the villages concerned is also taken into account while taking up this initiative, he said.
The supply will continue during the month of May, and a review will be made after that, Manjunath said.
