The Krishnapatnam port in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh is flourishing but the Chennai port is languishing, said Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko.

One of the reasons for Chennai port not having enough business is due to the stalled elevated Maduravoyal project. The AIADMK government is to be blamed for stalling the project, said Vaiko speaking at a public meeting in Pushpa Nagar in the city.

While a private port is allowed to flourish in the neighbouring State but a government port is suffering, he said.

“Both the DMK and the AIADMK have lots of money. However, our alliance has very strong team members and youngsters,” he said while introducing the alliance candidate for Thousands Light C Ambigapathi of MDMK and founder of call taxi firm Fast Track.

Vaiko started his campaign this morning from Anna Nagar, and addressed public meetings at Villivakkam, Kolathur, RK Nagar, TVK Nagar, Thousands Lights and Harbour. He will address meetings throughout Tamil Nadu in support of alliance candidates for the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled on May 16.

Urging women to vote for the alliance, Vaiko said, you continue to be strong supporters of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalaithaa. You got free grinder, mixie and fans. “However, are you happy? You are not, as men are consuming liquor and this is affecting the family. I appeal to women to support us to bring in prohibition when we come to power,” he said.

“Our government under our alliance chief minister candidate Vijaykanth will ensure that there will be prohibition and the State is free from corruption,” he said.
