Criticising the diplomatic practices of the Narendra Modi government, the Congress said the Centre should have taken “track two diplomacy” without any show off to make it to the Nuclear Suppliers’ Group.

“We just see on television everyday as if something historic has happened and Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Pampore are the reality on the ground. We will raise such issues in Parliament,” Congress leader Kapil Sibal said.

Reminding the BJP of its opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal, Sibal said Advani used to criticise it as a strategic subservience.

“It was strategic subservience at that time; it is a central piece today,” he added.

He urged Modi to deal with the ‘emergency’ in the country. “There is Emergency in India that has to be dealt with. There is Farmers’ Emergency, Drug Emergency and Unemployment Emergency, Price Rise Emergency. Deal with those Emergencies. You are more interested in 1976 in 2016, and not dealing with the Emergency that is at hand,” Sibal added.

When asked about a statement of the Prime Minister on the GST Bill that it will benefit the poor and the Congress was not allowing it to pass, Sibal said the Prime Minister should think about the poor.

“Instead of going to Washington seven times or meeting US President Barack Obama seven times, he should have met poor farmers at least once in Marathwada. Had he done this, we would have then believed his words that he thinks of poor,” Sibal added.
