Nothing is more important to me than the interests of the State and I shall not compromise on the score, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has asserted.

He made the assertion while addressing a May Day meeting here. Referring to the charge levelled by YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy, he said he would not sacrifice the interests of the State under any circumstances. "On several occasions, I have made it abundantly clear to the Centre that AP should be treated as a special case, as the State has suffered great injustice in bifurcation and it should be helped generously to get back on its feet. We will continue our efforts in that direction," he said.

Earlier, on Saturday, in Visakhapatnam the Chief Minister took exception to the remark made the Union Minister of State for Home, H.P Chaudhury, in the Rajya Sabha that there is no need for granting special status to Andhra Pradesh. He said he would write a letter to the Prime Minister on the issue.

State Agriculture Minister P. Pulla Rao was more explicit while speaking at Guntur on the issue. "We are the allies of the BJP and a member of the NDA, but that will not deter us from taking a clear-cut stand on issues relating to the State and we will continue to exert pressure on the Centre to grant special status to the State. We will make the demand repeatedly and finally, if there is no positive response, the Chief Minister will take a decision," he said.
