Karnataka is ready with 176 parameters of ‘Ease of doing business’ as against the stipulated 285 parameters.

To improve industrial climate in the country, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) had issued circular to States for adherence to central guidelines.

Team effort “We have to reach out to the industry.The guidelines and parameters prepared by us (Commerce and Industries Department) havebeen circulated among the association of companies, industry bodies and chambers of commerce,” Karnataka Industries Minister RV Deshpande told BusinessLine .

“Also, as a follow-up, the department had a joint meeting between industry and our officials on August 26. Many have given us their suggestions and they are being incorporated in the final draft,” he added.

Deshpande, in his personal capacity as minister, had a meeting with senior bureaucrats, department secretaries on August 30. Now, another meeting is being scheduled with the Chief Secretary to finalise the draft.

“Things are in process. What we are trying to do is bring in transparency with regard to clearance of projects in stipulated time and create online systems for approvals,” said Deshpande.

Earlier, participating in an interactive session with UK firms invested in Karnataka as part of ‘InvestKarnataka 2015’, Deshpande said: “To hand-hold companies from different countries, we plan to set up country-specific pavilions in Udyog Mitra, which is a single point of contact for investment in the State.”

This will help us in following up on investments and is a win-win for both the State and countries interested in investing in Karnataka,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, British Deputy High Commissioner Ian Felton said: “The UK believes in India and leading States such as Karnataka. We want a stronger, wider, deeper partnership. The UK is a major partner of India and we are excited about its development.”

On the ease of doing business, Felton said: “The UK is sharing with India its own experience in rising to eighth position on the World Bank rankings. The British Deputy High Commission, Bengaluru, is in dialogue with the government to release an ‘Ease of Doing Business in Karnataka’ report.”
