Karnataka Tourism has formed an advisory body, Bengaluru Tourism Advisory Committee (BTAC), to give fillip to ‘Brand Bengaluru’.

The committee will be chaired by Minister for Tourism and IT & BT Priyank Kharge and will consist of officials of the Tourism Department and experts from verticals such as heritage, urban, landscape, hospitality, architecture and conservationists.

Tourism potential Priyank Kharge said BTAC was formed after a month of deliberations. “BTAC has been entrusted with a job to identify the tourism potential of Bengaluru and also to brand it as a global city and as the most favourable urban tourism destination,” he added.

The role of the committee is to provide quick action plans for developing the Bengaluru region as a tourist destination by creating Brand Bengaluru, identifying different circuits and trails, offering tourism technologies, drawing up a calendar of events, promoting art and culture, attracting PPP projects and engaging in inter-city cooperation concepts.

Current trails Currently, Bengaluru offers an array of trails such as heritage, ecology, wildlife, science, spiritual, gastronomy, culture and sports. The city has the potential to captivate tourists with its historical monuments as well as its modern skyscrapers.

Kharge said the Bengaluru airport received 18 million travellers during 2015. Yet, Bengaluru has not been able to convert these travellers’ figures into tourists.

“We want BTAC to come up with ideas to tap at least 25 per cent of KIAL travellers to spend one day in the city. A minimum revenue of $450 million a year can be generated,” he added.
