Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has directed Public Works Minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami and senior government officials to participate in the Supreme Court-ordered meeting with Karnataka to resolve the ongoing deadlock over sharing of Cauvery waters.

Jayalalithaa is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals where she was admitted last week following fever and dehydration.

An official press release said that at an hour-long meeting with officials at the hospital on Tuesday, Jayalalithaa the issue in detail, also dictating her speech that will be read out by the Chief Secretary at the meeting of the two States which is likely on Thursday.

She was informed that the Supreme Court had directed the Attorney General to facilitate a meeting with Executive Heads of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with the Union Ministry of Water Resources to recommend ways to break the impasse in the issue.

She then directed Minister Palaniswami, Chief Secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, PWD Secretary SK Prabakar and Chairman, Cauvery Technical Cell, R Subramaniam to attend the meeting on behalf of the State.

The officials also apprised her of the directions of the Supreme Court on the applications filed by both States regarding the Court’s orders; and the application filed by Tamil Nadu on September 26 that Karnataka should not be heard on any matter on Cauvery till it complies with the Supreme Court’s orders on release of water to Tamil Nadu, the release said.

The Chief Secretary; Advocate General, R Muthukumaraswamy; Adviser to Government, Sheela Balakrishnan; and Chief Minister’s Principal Secretaries, K N Venkataramanan and A Ramalingam, participated in the meeting.
