Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today reiterated the Narendra Modi Government's commitment to honour all commitments made to the residual State of Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking in Vijayawada today Jaitley said, “The Centre will honour each and every commitment. We will do everything that has been promised to the state.”

The Finance Minister said there is a strong government at the Centre and a strong leader (N Chandrababu Naidu) in the state (Andhra Pradesh) and they will together ensure that there is all-round development and a world-class capital city of Amaravati comes up.

The Modi government has almost completed half its term and a number of initiatives taken by it will have a far reaching impact on the country.

Questioning why the Congress party headed governments in the past did not do much for Andhra Pradesh, Jaitley said about 25 institutions will come up in Andhra Pradesh including an IIT, IIM, AIIMS, IIIT and an IISc, among others.

In addition, he said SAIL and IOCL are planning projects in Andhra Pradesh and there is a special focus on the development of airports at Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other locations.

Referring to Special Category Status, he said the Centre will ensue that Andhra Pradesh gets every benefit that comes when a state is granted special category status.

About the Polavaram multi-purpose irrigation project, Jaitley assured that the project will be completed with Central funds and Nabard has been asked to look into the project funding.

On externally-aided projects, he said the Centre will back the funding of projects taken up by the state.
