The Election Commission has expressed the hope that ‘no voter will be left behind’ in the forthcoming Kerala elections.
It paid a visit to the State to undertake a final review of preparation by election machinery and to receive ground-level feedback from political parties, election machinery, citizens and others.
The Commission directed officials to work fearlessly and with the singular focus of being visibly impartial, objective and extremely sensitive to the slightest violation of any kind by anyone.
Sensitive locations identified At least 711 locations and more than 1,233 polling booths have been identified as ‘critical’ or ‘vulnerable’, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said after a review of the poll preparedness. Zaidi added that Central police forces would be deployed for the May 16 Assembly polls.
Most of these locations were in northern districts of Kasargod, Kannur and Kozhikode, he said.
Stern steps also would be taken to prevent bogus voting, he added.
On steps to curb the influence of black money during poll, Zaidi said enforcement activities against unaccounted money would be further intensified.
Already 340 flying squads have been activated, he said. A total of ₹19.49 crore unaccounted money, gold weighing 11.19 kg, and liquor to a tune of 18,384 litres along with 4,437.5 litres of spirit had been seized, he said.
