Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will participate in 47th meeting of the World Economic Forum at Davos Klosters in Switzerland from January 17-20. This is the third consecutive time Naidu is receiving an invitation after he took charge as Chief Minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh. Naidu was chosen as a special invitee for the summit by WEF President Klaus Schwab for a session on the “Future of Urban Development.” He will attend 45 to 50 meetings at Davos. He is slated to interact with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of various companies.

AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran's birth centenary that falls on Tuesday, January 17, has been declared a public holiday in Tamil Nadu. The holiday is applicable to all State government offices, corporations, local and cooperative bodies, boards constituted by the government and all banks, including cooperative, schools, colleges and all other educational institutions. Chief Secretary Girija Vaithiyanathan declared the holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act and asked private companies to consider declaring January 17 as a holiday for their employees in view of the centenary event. AIADMK General Secretary V.K. Sasikala had already said that the birth centenary would be celebrated in a befitting manner.

The Ministry of External Affairs , in partnership with Observer Research Foundation, is organising the 2nd Edition of 'Raisina Dialogue' from January 17-19. The theme of the meeting to be held in the Capital is 'The New Normal: Multilateralism with Multi-Polarity'. More than 250 delegates from 65 countries are expected to participate in the country's flagship geo-political conference, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The conference will deliberate on strategic issues including new challenges and cyber security.

Congress is to announce today whether it would join hands with “like-minded” parties for the Goa assembly elections. All India Congress Committee General Secretary Digvijaya Singh would make a formal announcement on alliance with like-minded parties in the state for the upcoming assembly polls. A party spokespersons said the party was not desperate to win the election and hog power. But, it would unite political forces with the aim to keep BJP out of power in the state, he said.

The Prime Minister will be under pressure to spell out a strategy ahead of triggering formal divorce negotiations, which she has promised by April.
