1) The Congress will hold a nation-wide protest against the demonetisation mismanagement on Friday. In Madhya Pradesh, the party will take-out peaceful marches and processions at the district and block level. State Congress leaders specified that the agitation against demonetisation chaos will not be violent or aggressive. They said the party wants to educate people on the issue rather than go hostile on the streets.

2) The senior selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will meet in Mumbai on Friday to select the team for the India-England ODI and T20 international series. The BCCI said the agenda of the meeting will be to select the India 'A' team to play two warm-up one-day matches against England at CCI Mumbai and also the Indian team for the three-match ODI and three-match T20I series to be played against England from January 15 to February 1.

3) A newly constituted five-member panel will meet in New Delhi next week to shortlist the names of the 53 candidates who have applied for the post of Director of AIIMS, a favoured public institution for medical education. The committee comprises Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister, R Chidambaram; Secretary in the Department of Health Research Soumya Swaminathan; Director-General of Health Services (DGHS) Jagdish Prasad; and Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University Yogesh Tyagi. The meeting of the panel, which has been approved by the Director of Personnel and Training (DoPT), will be chaired by Health Secretary C K Mishra.

4) The defamation case filed by Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be heard on January 6 by a court. Chandra sought Kejriwal's prosecution for allegedly defaming him by levelling false allegations in the wake of demonetisation of higher currency notes. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had mentioned Chandra's name while referring to those who have allegedly amassed black money. Chandra, the Essel Group Chairman, said in his plea that Kejriwal had made "false, fabricated and defamatory allegations" against him, while addressing a press conference on November 11.

5) The fourth International Hindi Conference will be held in the Visakhapatnam from January 6 to January 8 for developing a link among language experts around the world. The conference will be inaugurated on January 6 by Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan in the presence of Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar. For the first time, the Hindi conference will be held outside the USA and jointly organised by the Hindi Sangam Foundation, (New Jersey and New Delhi) and Lok Nayak Foundation of Visakhapatnam.
