The British Council is organising ‘The Great Talk’ with Nobel Prize winner and president of the Royal Society, Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, in Delhi. The event aims to motivate Indian students to plan their careers effectively by interacting with speakers from the UK. Ramakrishnan will deliver a lecture titled ‘On Nobody’s Word: Evidence and Modern Science’.

Banking operations may be hit today with the All India Bank Employees’ Association calling on its members to strike work on Friday. The strike call was given after the failure of talks held before the chief labour commissioner in Delhi.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will launch today the first accident insurance scheme of the health department. The scheme ensures free treatment for all road mishap victims for 48 hours in hospitals across the State. The benefit is not restricted to the people of Karnataka alone.

The first meeting of the National Council for Trade Development and Promotion will be held today, to discuss export strategies of States and align them with the Foreign Trade Policy. This comes as India’s exports have been falling for the past 12 months.

The Delhi Literature Festival begins today. The three-day event will feature discussions on ‘the age of intolerance’, ‘how to get published’ and ‘populism of poetry’. It will host more than 50 authors, publishers, journalists, political leaders and diplomats from across the country who will engage in thought-provoking discussions.
