National Institute of Securities Markets (an educational initiative by SEBI) said on Friday it has tied up with Moody’s Analytics (a subsidiary of Moody’s Corporation) to launch an advanced certification course in derivatives — Certificate in Derivatives Market Strategies (CDMS).

The course seeks to enhance the skills of securities market professionals in the area of derivatives and is estimated to be taken up by about 2,000 professionals by the year-end. Sandip Ghose, Director, NISM, said: “NISM’s basic derivatives certification course is very popular and we have certified around 80,000 professionals to date. Our estimate tells us that by the end of 2017 we will have around 2,000 professionals enrolled to this certification.

“Going forward, we hope that this certification gains in popularity since the clients in derivatives have expressed serious a desire for such a certification to enable them to move forward in their careers.”

NISM plans to market the course to banking professionals working in bank treasuries in a big way.

With the NISM-Moody’s CDMS in hand, individuals will be recognised for their specialised knowledge and qualifications in the advanced concepts of both exchange-traded and over-the-counter (OTC) derivative instruments. Mark Almeida, President, Moody’s Analytics, said: “The launch of this certification reinforces the commitment of Moody’s Analytics to developing sound proficiency standards, which support and promote efficiency and transparency in capital markets. We greatly value our partnership with NISM and are committed to helping advance the growth and success of India's securities market.”
