For Sale No: 49 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association to be held on Thursday and Friday, a volume of 9.57 lakh kg has been catalogued. This is some 54,000 kg less than the offer of last week. Of this, 6.37 lakh kg belongs to leaf grades and 3.20 lakh kg, dust grades. As much as 8.42 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.15 lakh kg, orthodox variety. In the leaf counter, only 71,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.66 lakh kg, CTC. Among the dusts, only 44,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 2.76 lakh kg, CTC. The market has been rising mostly due to the support from upcountry buyers. In November, in four of the five auctions held, average prices rose above ₹100 a kg. Last week, in the first sale in December, the average price rose to ₹102.74 a kg – the highest in nine months. The average price was above this at ₹106.78 only on February 26 this year.
