Because of arrival of quality turmeric, the price of the commodity increased at Erode markets. “Farmers brought 15 bags (one lot) of superior quality Salem hybrid variety turmeric and the traders quoting ₹10,000 a quintal procured all the bags. Though there was no heavy upcountry demands for the turmeric, the traders procured 70 per cent of the arrived 2,400 bags of turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. The medium variety and fine variety turmeric were up ₹200 a quintal for the finger variety and ₹250 for the root variety. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹6,598-9,289; the root variety ₹6,269-7,849. Of the 744 bags kept for sale, 579 were sold.
