Ravi Viswanathan, President, Growth Markets, Tata Consultancy Services, said a lot of mundane tasks are going to be completely automated. While there is an opportunity to get back to basics and have employees who can do multiple roles, re-skilling is also important.

“As an industry, we are going to evolve as an entrepreneurship-based industry as enormous amount of technology and tools are available,” he said participating in a panel discussion on ‘Navigating uncertain waters – Evolving to Succeed’.

“The market pie for the IT industry will expand as every company globally is becoming technology centric. Data and customers have come to forefront. This means, pie will expand and industry should be cognisant of this. We need to change our method and processes to ensure we are changing with times,” he said.

Bigger role According to Keshav Murugesh, CEO, WNS, the HR community should understand that it has a bigger role in companies’ brand equity.

New-generation employees are different from traditional employees who were associated with this business a few years back. Today, GenY is always asking questions. “If you create a rigid structure in HR, it won’t work. They want to participate in policies, procedures,” he said.

Tata Consultancy Services is the largest employer, followed by Cognizant Technology Solutions and Infosys in third place, in the Nasscom annual rankings of top 20 IT-BPM employers in India for the fiscal year 2015.
