With new Office 365 features such as analytics, machine learning technologies, security and a revamped Skype for business, Microsoft aims to consolidate its lead over competition in the Indian market.

Microsoft has announced the availability of new capabilities in Office 365 across analytics, security and collaboration available for corporates, priced at $35 per user – per month.

Talking to BusinessLine , Alok Lall, Director, Microsoft Office Division, said the new offerings are centred around CEO Satya Nadella’s vision to empower every individual and business to be more productive. This, coupled with the changing dynamics of corporates starting to opt for alternate productivity solutions from companies like Google, has forced the Redmond-based giant to rethink its offerings. Word, Powerpoint are classified as productivity tools.

Wooing new customers Microsoft is looking to woo both its existing and new users with these new add-ons. “In the new Office 365, a broad range of live data can be monitored and analysed through easy-to-use dashboards and interactive reports in a few minutes, something which was been tweaked,” says Lall. These reports are typically used across departments such as sales, admin or HR.

Typically, a brokerage house or a bank will use this data to help understand its business and consumers better and this is where Microsoft believes that its analytics solution comes in. “Delve Analytics crunches information real time to help improve personal and team effectiveness,” opines Lall. Microsoft counts Tata Motors and Wipro as some of its clients using the new version of Office 365.

These new features, the company believes, will further fuel one of its biggest cash cows. In the second quarter, Microsoft generated $25.7 billion in revenue, driven by Azure and Office 365 cloud offerings.

Further, productivity services, which now gets reported separately, generated $6.7 billion in revenues.
