Chennai-based BeWo Technologies has launched an IT-enabled ‘BeWo Genie Point-of-Sale’ for kirana stores to reduce transaction time and enable efficient business management.

The system comes with an integrated printer, barcode scanner, 3G, UPS and comprehensive PoS application including billing, inventory and promotions. It has a cloud-based dashboard for account management and controls and costs ₹50,000.

BeWo Technologies, incubated by California-headquartered Qualcomm, is in the process of signing up with 5,000 retailers across India and plans to add 8 million stores in three years. The company is looking to raise ₹100 crore for its expansion plans, from venture capitalist funds in India and the US.

Currently concentrated in Chennai, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi, BeWo will move to tier II and III cities in the coming year.

Speaking at the launch of the new product, the company’s MD and CEO R Sampath said BeWo plans to set up a manufacturing base in Chennai and will finalise the details in two-three months. The company currently imports equipment from China. “We have a team in India for the design of the product. We contract manufacture the PoS system from China,” he added.

With people moving towards online shopping, BeWo has tied up with hyper-local delivery platforms as well.

“This will bring in additional sales for kirana stores,” he added. In addition, the system has in-store advertising that helps the grocers connect with the FMCG sector. “The grocer can see the promo code in the PoS and connect with the FMCG partner to place orders directly,” Sampath said.
