Active blenders’ participation in good liquoring varieties has lifted tea prices at the Kochi auctions this week.

The CTC dust market opened ₹2-4 a kg dearer and appreciated further to the tune of ₹5-7 or more as the sale progressed. In sale no 34, the quantity on offer was 8,84,500 kg and there was a better export enquiry.

According to auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, the orthodox market was steady to firm and the quantity on offer was 13,000 kg. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed the bulk of the quantity sold.

In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹107-162, mediums quoted ₹95-128 and plain grades stood at ₹83-95.

The prices in leaf varieties also spurted with the market for high grown brokens, whole leaf steady to firm and sometimes dearer. Medium clean black well made tippy grades, whole leaf and brokens were firm to dearer. The quantity on offer in orthodox grades was 1,54,000 kg with active participation from CIS and other exporters.

The market for good liquoring brokens in CTC was firm to dearer and the quantity on offer was 49,000 kg. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed the bulk quantity.

In dust varieties, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹163 followed by Surianalle SFD at ₹151. Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top in leaf varieties quoting ₹433 followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson Green Tea at ₹311.
