With the summer season round the corner, Videocon India aims to capture 13 per cent market share of the AC segment by the end of 2017 fiscal. The company launched its hybrid solar air-conditioner range.

It has rolled out two 5 star-rated models that are available in 1 ton and 1.5 ton and priced at ₹99,000 and ₹ 1.39 lakh, respectively.

The hybrid solar AC range leverages on solar power but if required can shift to regular electricity supply.

Akshay Dhoot, Head of Technology and Innovation, Videocon, said: “Today, it is imperative for the brands to innovate in the direction of utilising more renewable sources of energy. With the ability to be operated with naturally obtained energy, Solar Hybrid AC is the future of air conditioner technology.”

“Our products are currently available across 9,000 sellers which we plan to increase to about 13,500 by March. This will be done largely in the tier-I and II markets,” said Sanjeev Bakshi, COO-AC Division, Videocon.

“We are expecting to sell 6.5 lakh units this year and plan to increase our market share in the AC segment to 13 per cent by end of 2017 fiscal year from the current 9 per cent,” he added.
