State—run India Tourism Development Corporation has posted a stable performance for the first quarter of the current financial year with a total turnover standing at Rs 105.96 cr, a growth of 2.24 per cent in it over the corresponding period last year.

The turnover in the first quarter in Financial Year 2014 was Rs 103.63 cr.

ITDC, a public sector undertaking (PSU) of the Tourism Ministry, registered net profit before tax at Rs 2.77 cr and net sales at Rs 96.95 cr as compared to Rs 30 lakh and Rs 96.19 cr respectively in the corresponding quarter last fiscal, says a release.

Buoyed by the positive market sentiment, the tourism sector has seen renewed impetus helping ITDC to post a robust performance with the Ashok Group of hotels registering an occupancy rate of 47 per cent compared to 45 per cent in the corresponding quarter last year.

ITDC has implemented a sound and Light show project at the Shanti Stupa at Dhauli in Odisha. The theme of Kalinga War and conversion of King Ashoka from ‘Chandashoka’ to ’Dharmashoka’ are being portrayed in three languages on all days of the week except Monday.

A new duty—free shop under Ashok International Trade Division has also been opened at Mumbai Port.
