Mumbai-based agri-business start-up Krishi Star has raised an undisclosed amount in seed funding from Artha Venture Challenge, Menterra Social Impact Fund and Upaya Social Ventures. The venture helps small farmers by branding and selling their products through a farmer-owned supply chain.
According to a press release, the Artha Initiative, under which the Artha Venture Challenge has been launched, has provided the seed investment, while Menterra will guide the company to grow its business. Upaya Social Ventures is co-investing with 1to4 Foundation — a Swiss non-profit that invests in start-ups and early-stage social enterprises — and a Mumbai-based angel investor.
At present, Krishi Star works with about 5,000 tomato growers in Maharashtra and Gujarat and farmer-owned food processing units.
Bryan Lee, co-founder, Krishi Star, told BusinessLine that it sells ₹1-2 lakh worth of products every month.
