One of the king cobras at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park at Vandalur, aged seven years and measuring 15 feet, died.

A pair of king cobras was received from Dr. Shivarama Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula, Karnataka, in exchange of two two-year-old ostriches.

‘Not in good health’

Zoo officials said that the reptile was not in good health owing to serious ‘dysecdysis,’ which covers the entire body of the reptile.

It also suffered due to growth of multiple layers of outer skin on its eyes, which led to ‘impaired vision’ and the reptile could not identify its prey inside the enclosure, they said.

Despite the best efforts to revive it, the king cobra died on Thursday, said a spokesperson of the Arignar Anna Zoological Park.
