Yuki Bhambri defends title

Yuki Bhambri defended his singles title when he beat Vishnu Vardhan 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the 35th PSPB inter-unit tennis tournament at the RK Khanna Stadium here on Friday.

The 23-year-old Yuki had earlier won the team championship for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) along with Vishnu Vardhan.

Four-time national champion Prerna Bhambri of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) won the women’s title, as she beat Dhruthi Venugopal of ONGC, 6-1, 7-5.

Both players have been troubled by injuries in recent weeks and Prerna handled the match better as she recovered from being down 0-3 in the second set to close out the contest in straight sets.

The results (finals): Men: Yuki Bhambri bt Vishnu Vardhan 6-4, 6-3.

Women: Prerna Bhambri bt Dhruthi Venugopal 6-1, 7-5.

Veterans: Hakim Ali bt Bhushan Akut 6-3, 6-4. — Special Correspondent
