Challenger tennis: Ramkumar makes last eight

Ramkumar Ramanathan made the quarterfinals of the $50,000 men’s Challenger tennis tournament with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Steven Diez of Canada in Samarkhand, Uzbekistan, on Thursday.

The results: $100,000 Challenger men, Seoul, Korea: Doubles (quarterfinals): Gong Mao-Xin (Chn) & Chu-Huan Yi (Tpe) bt Sam Groth (Aus) & Leander Paes 7-6(1), 6-3; Purav Raja & Divij Sharan bt Alexander Kudryavtsev (Rus) & Sergiy Stakhovsky (Ukr) 7-6(6), 7-6(5).

$50,000 Challenger men, Samarkhand, Uzbekistan: Singles (pre-quarterfinals): Ramkumar Ramanathan bt Steven Diez (Can) 7-5, 6-3. Doubles (pre-quarterfinals): Riccardo Ghedin (Ita) & Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan bt Nicolas Barrientos (Col) & Steven Diez (Can) 6-1, 6-4.
