ITF men’s Futures: Dalwinder Singh marches on

Local lad Dalwinder Singh capitalised on his chances and subdued qualifier Yuya Ito of Japan 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(4) in the quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament at the Harvest Academy, Jassowal, on Thursday.

The 20-year-old did his confidence a world of good by making his maiden semifinals at this level. He will play Davis Cupper Vijayant Malik, who he had beaten last week.

The results: Quarterfinals: Vishnu Vardhan bt Nam Hoang Ly (Vie) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2; Shintaro Imai (Jpn) bt Jayesh Pungliya 6-2, 6-1; Dalwinder Singh bt Yuya Ito (Jpn) 6-4, 0-6, 7-6(4); Vijayant Malik bt Vijay Sundar Prashanth 4-6, 4-2 (retired).

Doubles: Semifinals: Sriram Balaji & Vijay Sundar Prashanth bt Mohit Mayur & Kaza Vinayak Sharma 6-2, 6-2; John Lamble (USA) & Bernardo Saraiva (Por) bt Haadin Bava & Hardeep Singh Sandhu 6-1, 6-1.
